Fresh Winter Strawberries from Egypt Air & Sea Freight
Vibrant colour, excellent firmness, and high Brix. We capture the peak of Egypt's
winter harvest (December–February) to supply premium berries when European fields are dormant.
Il Mondo Export supplies premium fresh Egyptian strawberries (Fragaria × ananassa) to European and Russian retail buyers during the winter months when northern European production is completely dormant. Available varieties include Red Merlin, Fortuna, Festival, and Winter Star — all characterised by deep red colour, excellent firmness for sea transit, and high Brix levels meeting retail quality standards.
Strawberries are Egypt’s most time-sensitive fresh export, requiring field-to-cooler logistics within hours of harvest. All Il Mondo strawberries are forced-air pre-cooled to 0–2°C immediately after picking and packed in ventilated 250g punnets (10 per carton)
to prevent condensation and Botrytis (grey mould) development during transit. Available by both expedited air freight and short-haul sea freight depending on destination transit time and client requirements.

Why Source Dates from Egypt with Il Mondo?
Egypt is the world's largest date producer. By combining the early harvest of fresh Barhi (August–October) with our long-running Medjool and semi-dry campaigns (September–March), Il Mondo provides a single, reliable origin for your entire winter and pre-Ramadan demand.
Our dates are grown in low-pest desert environments, ensuring exceptional cleanliness and taste. Every export lot is conditioned to optimal moisture levels, packed in food-grade liners, and shipped with continuous temperature data logging.

The Egyptian Valencia Season: February to June
Valencia oranges are Egypt’s longest-running and most robust citrus export. As the winter citrus season ends in Europe, the Egyptian Valencia season reaches its peak. Because of their naturally robust rind and excellent keeping qualities, our Valencias offer exceptional shelf life — providing a reliable bridge of fresh citrus deep into the European spring and early summer.
For juice processors, the February–May window is the most critical supply period of the year. Il Mondo’s fixed weekly loading schedules from Alexandria ensure your production lines never stop — whether you need retail-grade Class I cartons or high-yield Class II industrial bins.

Frequently Asked Questions AboutFresh Egyptian Strawberries
How do you manage Botrytis (grey mould) during transit?
Our protocol combines MRL-compliant field IPM (Integrated Pest Management) with rapid forced-air pre-cooling down to 0–2°C immediately after harvest.
We use ventilated punnets that prevent condensation build-up — the primary trigger for Botrytis spore germination. Cartons are palletised with airflow gaps and kept at constant 0–2°C throughout cold chain. This protocol delivers transit decay rates consistently below industry average.
Air freight or sea freight — which should I choose for Egyptian strawberries?
Air freight is recommended for: buyers within 4 days transit time (e.g. UK, Netherlands, Germany via hub airports), premium retail programs where maximum shelf life is critical, and buyers who are new to Egyptian strawberries and want to test quality.
Short-haul sea freight is suitable for: buyers within 7 days transit (e.g. Southern Europe, Black Sea ports), cost-sensitive volume programs, and food service buyers where shelf life requirements are lower than retail.
What is the minimum order for fresh Egyptian strawberries?
For sea freight programs: minimum order is 1 × 40ft Reefer Container (approximately 8,000–9,000 cartons of 2.5kg = 20–22 tonnes net).
For air freight programs: we can consolidate smaller volumes. Contact our team to discuss LCL (Less than Container Load) air freight programs for initial trial orders.
