Export-Grade Sweet Potatoes from Egypt Beauregard & Bellevue
Filling the European supply gap with cured, flawless, orange-fleshed sweet potatoes.
Available from August through March — warm-chain shipped to protect quality.
Il Mondo Export supplies Class I Egyptian sweet potatoes (Ipomoea batatas) to European retail chains and wholesale distributors. The two core export varieties are Beauregard (orange flesh, pink-red skin — the standard EU retail variety) and Bellevue (orange flesh, copper skin — premium retail grade).
Unlike tropical citrus or soft fruit, sweet potatoes are a warm-chain root crop requiring storage and transit at 13–18°C — never below 10°C to prevent chilling injury and internal browning. All Il Mondo sweet potatoes are properly cured post-harvest to
harden the skin for sea transit, size-graded, and shipped in ventilated containers with continuous temperature monitoring. Available October through January at peak season, with supply from August through March.

Why Source Dates from Egypt with Il Mondo?
Egypt is the world's largest date producer. By combining the early harvest of fresh Barhi (August–October) with our long-running Medjool and semi-dry campaigns (September–March), Il Mondo provides a single, reliable origin for your entire winter and pre-Ramadan demand.
Our dates are grown in low-pest desert environments, ensuring exceptional cleanliness and taste. Every export lot is conditioned to optimal moisture levels, packed in food-grade liners, and shipped with continuous temperature data logging.

The Egyptian Valencia Season: February to June
Valencia oranges are Egypt’s longest-running and most robust citrus export. As the winter citrus season ends in Europe, the Egyptian Valencia season reaches its peak. Because of their naturally robust rind and excellent keeping qualities, our Valencias offer exceptional shelf life — providing a reliable bridge of fresh citrus deep into the European spring and early summer.
For juice processors, the February–May window is the most critical supply period of the year. Il Mondo’s fixed weekly loading schedules from Alexandria ensure your production lines never stop — whether you need retail-grade Class I cartons or high-yield Class II industrial bins.

Frequently Asked Questions AboutEgyptian Sweet Potatoes
How do you avoid chilling injury on North Atlantic routes?
Unlike citrus, sweet potatoes are a warm-stored crop that suffers severe chilling injury below 10°C. We ship cured roots in ventilated containers locked at 13–18°C, never dropping below 10°C — completely preventing internal browning and off-flavours.
Container temperature is monitored by continuous data loggers throughout the voyage. Temperature records are provided with each shipment for your quality assurance records.
What is the curing process and why does it matter?
Curing is a post-harvest process where freshly harvested sweet potatoes are held at 29–32°C with 90–95% humidity for 4–7 days. This heals surface wounds, thickens the skin, and converts starches to sugars — significantly improving sweetness, shelf life, and resistance to transit damage.
All Il Mondo sweet potatoes are properly cured before packing. Uncured sweet potatoes are highly susceptible to decay during sea transit.
Are Egyptian sweet potatoes available year-round?
The peak harvest and best quality window is October to January. However, Il Mondo can supply Egyptian sweet potatoes from August through March, with cold storage holding available for late-season programs.
For year-round supply, we can discuss multi-origin programs combining Egyptian production with complementary origins.
