Premium Egyptian Pomegranates Wonderful & Early 116
From early 116 summer harvests to the deep-red Wonderful winter crops.
High-colour, high-Brix pomegranates engineered for extended marketing windows.
Il Mondo Export supplies two varieties of premium Egyptian pomegranates (Punica granatum) to European, Russian, and Gulf importers: Wonderful — the globally recognised deep-red, late-season premium variety with high juice content and extended shelf life; and Early 116 — a mid-season variety offering earlier market entry from August.
Egypt’s hot, dry climate produces pomegranates with superior colour development, high Brix levels, and thick husks that protect arils during long sea transits. All Il Mondo pomegranates are packed at 5–7°C — the critical temperature window that prevents husk browning (scald) and maintains vibrant external appearance upon arrival.

The Egyptian Valencia Season: February to June
Valencia oranges are Egypt’s longest-running and most robust citrus export. As the winter citrus season ends in Europe, the Egyptian Valencia season reaches its peak. Because of their naturally robust rind and excellent keeping qualities, our Valencias offer exceptional shelf life — providing a reliable bridge of fresh citrus deep into the European spring and early summer.
For juice processors, the February–May window is the most critical supply period of the year. Il Mondo’s fixed weekly loading schedules from Alexandria ensure your production lines never stop — whether you need retail-grade Class I cartons or high-yield Class II industrial bins.

Frequently Asked Questions AboutEgyptian Pomegranates
How do you keep husk colour attractive and prevent scald in storage?
Prolonged storage below 5°C causes husk browning (chilling-induced scald) in pomegranates. We ship at the optimal 5–7°C temperature band with high humidity (90–95% RH), using carton liners to limit moisture loss.
This protocol ensures vibrant red external colour and firm, intact arils upon arrival — even after 14–18 day sea transits to European ports.
What is the difference between Wonderful and Early 116 pomegranates?
Wonderful is the globally preferred late-season variety, known for its deep crimson skin, blood-red arils, high juice content, and excellent shelf life of up to 3 months in controlled atmosphere storage. Peak harvest: October–November.
Early 116 is a mid-season variety (August–September) that enters the market before Wonderful, offering buyers earlier season availability and a slightly lighter skin colour. It is popular in Gulf and European ethnic retail.
How long is the shelf life of Egyptian pomegranates?
At 5–7°C and 90–95% humidity: Wonderful pomegranates achieve 10–12 weeks shelf life. Early 116 achieves 6–8 weeks.
For extended programs, Controlled Atmosphere (CA) storage is available — contact our team to discuss CA programs for Wonderful lots.
